Through the white screen that appears in three films (Zen for film, by Nam June Paik, Scénario du film Passion, by Jean-Luc Godard, and Où gît votre sourire enfoui?, by Pedro Costa) and in a photographic project (Theatres, by Hiroshi Sugimoto), we approach the concept of origin as formulated by Walter Benjamin. Considering its openness and inachievement, the origin returns in the future, laboured by memory. What we search here is a cinema of the origin (that differs from a cinema of the origins), in which transparency always lies a opacity originary. We will find this origin in the white screen and the various forms it takes in each work.Downloads
