The main objective ofthis article isto reflect on film editing regarded as a creative act: rather a sense-eliciting instance in filmmaking than the mere act of piecing footage together. Jt is the manner in which filmmaking articulates and assembles images and sounds that makes films become discourse. New senses, a new logic is created, in which meanings are not transparent, since they are produced by the association of fragments. Two overlapping realities arise: on the one hand, the reality of life itself and, on the other, the ftlm reality, ie the reality of discourse and, to remain within the fihn reality, the juxtaposition o f images that determine new readings for these images. Starting from the principies ofS.M. Eisenstein's Film EditingTheory, this article presents a brief overview ofhow, along its history, cinema has been influenced by the concepts developed in Eisenstein 's theory.Downloads
