Estrutura e função das imagens na ciência e na arte: entre a síntese e o holismo da forma, da força e da perturbação

Este artigo descreve primeiramente algumas categorias de imagens produzidas por instrumentos digitais, e presentes na pesquisa científica em nanoescala; explora como cada categoria de imagem é produzida; estuda os tipos de "conteúdo" das imagens e, finalmente, analisa seus usos nas práticas de pesquisa e seu lugar na cognição. Serão sugeridas três maneiras pelas quais as imagens figuram na operação epistemológica. Em segundo lugar, argumentamos que paralelos e dissimilaridades entre as imagens científicas e as imagens artísticas auxiliam a delinear algumas características gerais das imagens, além de chamar a atenção para particularidades importantes da imagem científica. Em terceiro lugar, examinamos as diferenças entre as imagens experimentais e as imagens por simulação nas pesquisas em nanoescala. E, finalmente, dirigimos nossa atenção para as operações epistemológicas, examinando, em ordem ascendente de significância, a introdução da cor para propósitos cognitivos, a seleção de imagens para exploração crítica e a operação designada "imagem/representação".Downloads
