The article analyzes the texts published by Otto Maria Carpeaux (then Otto Karpfen) in the Viennese weekly
Der Christliche Ständestaat. The set or articles is part of a broader research on Carpeaux’s European
essays published between 1934 and 1936. The articles are analyzed from the perspective of the relations
between the political and sociocultural environment of Austria in the 1930s, marked by the rise of Hitler’s
National Socialism, and the ideological significance of Karpfen’s journalistic work, taking into consideration
his engagement in the struggle for the independence of Austria from the Third Reich based on his affiliation
with political Catholicism.
