This article presents the findings of a study that examined the curricula of undergraduate (bachelor’s and licentiate) programs in Social Sciences situated in public higher education institutions in Brazil. It focused on the bibliographic repertoires of mandatory curricular components of social theory in Anthropology and Sociology, paying particular attention to the continuities and inflections in the authorship indicated in the courses’ pedagogical projects. By considering the literature as a constitutive dimension of education, the text investigates to what extent curricula reiterate, reconfigure, or challenge disciplinary canons, in light of the effects of the democratization of higher education and recent critiques of its historical foundations.
