Quase crítica: insuficiências da sociologia da modernização reflexiva

Recebida nos anos de 1990 como importante renovação das ciências sociais, a sociologia da modernização reflexiva, desenvolvida principalmente por A. Giddens e U. Beck, mostra já hoje sinais evidentes de esgotamento. Do ponto de vista teórico, tal abordagem não escapa ao evolucionismo contido na primeira sociologia da modernização: se nesta última eram as instituições e as estruturas sociais das sociedades do Atlântico Norte que representavam um ponto de chegada da história a ser alcançado por todas as demais sociedades, a teoria da modernização reflexiva estabelece a subjetividade reflexiva como referência de sua teleologia. Por outro lado, a concepção de uma "terceira via", além da esquerda e da direita, encontra-se assente numa visão idealizada da política, inserindo essa esfera acima dos interesses e das relações de poder. Revela-se, dessa forma, desprovida de qualquer recurso analítico capaz de favorecer a compreensão crítica dos desenvolvimentos recentes na política mundial.
