The efficiency of six foot and mouth disease vaccines was examined by the Mouse Protection Index and C Index tests using 15 or more guinea pigs per viral dilution for titration. A good correlation and high significance were obtained between the tests. The value of the Mouse Protection Index was approximately double the C Index value. Thus, in view of its low cost and easy execution due to the exclusive use of mice, the Mouse Protection Index can be recommended for testing the efficiency of foot and mouth disease vaccines, especially when a large number of tests is needed.Downloads
