Abstract

What follows is a briefly expanded version derived from a short talk given at XIV ABEI and II AEIS Symposium of Irish Studies in South America, held at USP on August 14, 2019. I reflect on my experience both as a professor of
translation and literature of English-speaking countries and – in this specific case – as a translator of texts by Irish authors and by different scholars and professionals who discuss Irish life, culture and society.

  • Alzira Leite Vieira Allegro

    Alzira Leite Vieira Allegro holds a Doctor’s Degree in Languages from Universidade de São Paulo; presently she teaches Literatures of English-speaking Countries (especially American Literature) and Translation at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, and Literary Translation at the Literary Translation Program of Casa Guilherme de Almeida; she has published articles on literature, and translated various books in the area of humanities, besides being a sworn translator and author, with the publication in co-authorship of three books of idioms and colloquialisms, (Whatchamacallit, Happy Couples, The Word is the Thing); and one glossary of academic and education terms for sworn translators (Glossário de Termos Acadêmicos e de Educação) – all of them in bilingual editions.
