Abstract

Relationships between body stability, health problems, gender and age are still poorly understood. One of the greatest concerns has to do with obese children. Even though this topic is of the utmost importance, there is a dearth of reports on corporeal balance and childhood obesity. By means of a bibliographical review, this study was developed to identify and report on the implications of obesity on the acquisition of stability and body posture in children. This study sought to investigate the relationship between body balance and obesity in children. A bibliographical search was carried out in three databases: Lilacs, Sciencedirect, and Scielo among articles listed under balance, children, postural control, and in various combinations. In accordance with the studies found, it was possible to infer that the difficulty in obese children maintaining their balance is mainly related to the body’s physical modifications plus a normal childhood lack of coordination. Even so, the studies show a divergence among the effects of infantile obesity and body balance, demonstrating the need for new research using modern, up-to-date methods.
