Abstract

The increase in density of population has ·called for the need for sewage treatment. Since the last century, sewage disposal has been the object of studies, research and experience. The first ideias carne out with a tendency toward utilitarism. Later, the disposal of sewage was considered especially in preventing water courses from being overworked as natural purifying agencies.Sewage freafment is now regarded as Sanitary Requirement, based on hygienic, comfort, esthetic, economic and legal considerations. To point out specific reasons for sewage and wast treatment, the author classifies injuries due to pollution in accordance with the severa! public interests adversely affecfed. Discharge os sewage into streams, as well as in tidal waters is examined.
