Abstract

The A. studied the influence of temperature and reading time in the V. D. R. L. test for syphilis. Tests were performed at three temperatures - 20°, 29° (room temperature) and 37°C. - and readings made from 5 to 5 minutes until 30 minutes. Results showed that in higher temperature more tests were positive and the longer the time elapsing between agitation and reading the more intensive was the floculation observed. The same happened in quantitative tests. Placing the antigen emulsion in the cold until the moment of use and reading the tests imediately after the agitation prevênt false positive reactions due to high temperature.
