Abstract

A nutritional clinicai survey was dane in 4208 individuais who considered themselves normal, and carne to thc Hcalth Centers of São Paulo, accompanying patients. In past publications we have given the results of clinicai and biochemical examinations in order to detect hypovitaminosis of A, of B complex and C vitamins. This work shows the results of what we havc found on the same group of the population with regard to blood, whole protein, phosphatasc, hemoglobin, counting of red cclls and stool examinations. Thc occurency of some general undernourishmcnt signs are here given as well. The results of whole blood protein were given on table XLII after we have relateá the relative values of this biochcmical examination. Only 4.607f; of our group showed blood concentrations under 6.0 g of whole protein per 100 ml of blood. They showed a mean of 7,49 g% with a standard deviation of 0,8859 and a standard error of the average of 0,0414. We have not found greater incidence of edema among the individuais with low rate of protein in blood than those with high concentrations. The alcalin phosfatase was detected in 457 individuais and the results are given on Tablc XLIII. The King and Armstrong method was used. The results gave an average o f 6,27 U. K. A., with a standard deviation o f 2.7297. Only 2.4'íé of the individuais of this group showed results which are considered high. The results of the counting of red cells and those of hemoglobin are given on Table XLIV and XLV respectively. The counting of red cells gave a mean of 4.512.209 per mm3 and the dosage of hemoglobin 12.66 g per cent; they are, of course, normal values. The calculation of the hemoglobin of red cells gave a mean value of 28,04 yy ( micromicrograms) per cell. 50, 151)é o f ou r group gavc values which are between 27 and 33 yy.We have not obtained any relationship between the ocurrency of palio of mucosae and the Iow rate of hemoglobin. The probabilities P of an individual with pallor of mucosae, having too low rate of hemoglobin is of 53,43%, meanwhile a percentage very near of the null value of 50%. This would suggested that it is improper to correlate a pele mucosa with a low rate of hemoglobin. Additional stool examinations were done in 1269 individuais of our group. As we have: employed a simple method and used a single sample of each individual the results given on Table XLVII I are limitated by the conditions of the method used. The results of some inespecific and general signs that are not related on anterior papers are presented in this work. 15,56% of the individuais showed winged scapulae and 7,85% had spider telangiectasis. The subcutaneous fat, examined by our technique was considered excessive on 21 ,60)G of the examined individuais.
