Abstract

1.The limitations of the data obtained through such a short questionnaire as the one used in this study are most ohvious, hut even so, the information gathcred will serve as a guidc to the achievement of our purposes.2. It is agreed unanimously that puhlic health is a joh to be done cooperatively by the different professional workers engaged in such a program. 3. The team work concept implicd in the previous statement is not something that grows spontaneously, even from the nwst fertile ground, hut demands long work and experience, hefore it can slww any fruit.most. 4. The gathering o f so many professional workers in the schools of public health provides thc best opportunity for the development of this concept through actual experience with it. 5. There was also general agreement about the J'eed for some kind of common activity to hring together the representatives of the different disciplines in the school of public he<llth, in a way that publíc health problems can be studicd from ali points of view and a joint solution found.6. Ali the schools o f public he.:llth in the study group provi de one or another opportunity for multidisciplinary work. 7. Required comnwn courses represent one of the means of bringing ali disciplines together, the following subjects heing listed in the majority of schools: Public Health Administration, Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmcntal Sanitation. 8. The best way o f furthering the team work concept, though, seems to be the division of the class into multidisciplinary groups for the development of a seminar type of project or some kind of committee project. Most of the schools have it included somewhere during the academic year. Many - using it as a teaching method for several courses - have the seminar used throughout the year. 9. Since the seminar 1s used as a teaching device, the students are given crcdit for it.
