Contribución al estudio del poblamiento africano en Cuba

Abstract

Seeking to present concrete aspects about the African settlement in Cuba, the author considers the disappearance of the native populations – due to suicides and rebellions repressed by the Spaniards – , and the consequent needs of replacement of the labor force, as factors which determined the introduction of the African slavery in that country. However, this fact does not appear as an isolated process, but rather as a product of a global policy of plunder by the dominant powers. The paper presents data about ethnic groups, linguistic groups, origin, number of slaves introduced, compositions by gender, etc., allowing a sccint understanding of the proposed theme.
