Abstract

Several analyses have demonstrated how the colonization process of the
Amazon, starting in the 1970s, has been directed towards the implantation of the major
capital, including the means to attract the necessary workforce to the region. With this
scenario in mind, and restricting the analysis to the Expropriation Altamira Polygon, in
the state of Pará, this article intends to present the contradictions of the colonization
programs that, despite legislation that predicted otherwise, have made it possible to the
great land property to be consolidated in areas originally designed to “familiar
properties”. Three main moments will be subject of this article: a) official colonization;
b) the Settlement Projects and Sustainable Development Projects, predicted in the 1st
and 2nd National Agrarian Reform Plan; and c) the “Terra Legal” Program.
