This research report introduces new data concerning both the reception of John Armitage History of Brazil and the biography of this highly obscure author. The text also focuses on arguing that Armitage narrates the history of Brazilian independence from a historiographic model anchored on modern sentimentality as an expressive resource. Thus, the English author made use of a sentimental characterization of Pedro I's private life as an explanatory element of the first reign's history.Downloads
