ANTÔNIO CARLOS FON: UM JORNALISTA INFILTRADO NA REPORTAGEM POLICIAL CONTRA A DITADURA

In February 1979, during an intense debate about amnesty in Brazil, Veja magazine publishes the reports “Going down to the basements” and “A power in the shadows”, authored by journalist Antônio Carlos Fon. The journalistic investigation represents one of the works with the greatest impact in the liberal press on the kidnappings, torture, and deaths of opponents of the military regime. In this interview, Fon addresses the beginning of his political and professional trajectory, the production of the reports in Veja – which got an expanded version with the launch, in July of the same year, of the book Torture: the history of political repression in Brazil –, the impact of the work on public opinion and the amnesty process, among other topics. The interview is part of a broader survey of journalism, editorial production, and amnesty.
