Since the set of choices involved in the selection of compositional techniques in a photograph is mediated by ideological universes, this article discusses how the photographic coverage made during World War II deals with the theme of solidarity in conflict scenes. The corpus of the study, selected in editions of Revista da Semana published between 1942 and 1945, presents different compositional techniques used by photographers from Umberto Eco's proposals on image rhetoric, which involve five levels of photographic decomposition (iconic, iconographic, tropological, topical and enthematic). The images present scenes from the perspective of the effects of meaning that the techniques of composition generate to see what were the meanings given to this event in this specific space.Downloads
