O Presidente Kubitschek

The author met ex-President Juscelino Kubitschek- de Oliveira during a congress of the Rotary Club in Poços de Caídas, State of Minas Gerais. The name Kubitschek was familiar to him: while studying the history of the Law Faculty of the University of São Paulo he discovered, in the XIXth century, this same name, a forbear of the ex-President, whom he immediately liked for being an abolitionist and a Republican. After Juscelino’s tragic death, thc author decidcd to reread his memories, which also constitute an important historical document. With these materiais he drew Juscelino’s profile, showing that he was a fighter, and that the difficulties his family faced after his father’s early death were overcome mainly to the sacrifices of D. Júlia, his mother, a public school teacher in Diamantina. The author considers Juselino’s political risc as well as important aspects of his life.
