Brazilian theatre in the 18th century: from public festivities to opera houses

The article investigates the innovations of the theater that occurred in the colonial Brazil during the 18th century. Since the beginning of the colonization, Brazil faced its acclimation to European models, however in the 18th century one can see the building of theater institutions, known as “casas de ópera” [opera houses], hanging theater functions. This text aims to question this process of changing, considering staging manifestations that occurred previously to this process from the point of view of the theatricality.Downloads
