Abstract

This article presents a brief history of book clubs from the 17th to 21st century as a space for articulation and cultural, political and social organization among women, as well as problematizing the scarce role for women in literature. Its main objective is to report the experiences of the Book Club Leia Mulheres in Marília, São Paulo. The Book Clubs allow the exchange of experiences and in the case of Leia Mulheres, the proposal to encourage the reading and discussion of works written by women across different genres and themes and contemplating authors of various nationalities. It seeks to open space in the literary and editorial market for female authorship through monthly meetings also held by women in twenty-five states of Brazil.
