In the present papers techinical and financial approach of the Botucatu Aquifer exploitations is discussed. Serious pollution problems created by growing industrial and modern agricultural activities, call for the development of this uncontaminated and very well protected ground water reservoir, in despite of the abundance of surface water in this region. This protection is provided by a thick basaltic confining bed. In the brazilian portion of the Paraná geological basin, this huge aquifer has about 800.000 km² and its thickness increases from the borders toward the center of the basin where it may reach 800 meters. The yield of the wells, whose depths range from one hundred to more than two thousand meters, is very high between one hundred to more than one thousand cubic meters per hour. Costs of pumped water range from 40 to 200 cents of cruzeiro or about 2,4 to 11,5 cents of US dolar. Such costs mean half the costs of the surface water currently in use for the purpose of public water supply. Among the perspectives of exploitation appear the water supply systems for the most important cities in the region and the use of the hot geothermal water potential for househeating in winter, air conditioning in summer and for the development of recreation centers.
