Abstract

Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos is part of history, not only for its long background, but for what it meant in different moments for Peru and for Latin America. San Marcos is the image of what happens in the country and it defines itself as a university with a solid academic and research tradition. Not only does it graduate and qualify top professionals, but they also achieve professional expertise, sensitivity and imagination, being able to respond to several scenarios and demands. The new University Law1 does not recognize San Marcos as the university of the nation. As an institution, it has been ignored for a decade. In this context, we must inquire what is happening with a public university like ours, with the humanism condition in the 21st century and we must generate consensuses for a university on a par with the Republic Bicentennial. This reflection will be based on our teaching experience and on our space in the Languages and Human Sciences College.
