Abstract

This work aims to appoint some elements that will outline the western modern societies beginning from the discussion about the defense of the luxe in the XVIII century. We will work with the book by Luiz Roberto Monzani Desejo e prazer na Idade Moderna but also with some seminal texts on the luxe, from the philosophers Voltaire and Ferguson, both names of the enlightenment, in which we aim to find some elements of the rise of modern societies.
