Abstract

Philip Pettit argues that neo-republicanism may well contribute to the feminist movement, since its central normative principle, the ideal of freedom as the absence of domination, can be widely used in the struggle for political, legal, social and cultural equality between men and women. Based on the writings of some feminist authors, the article intends to discuss the limits of the neo-republican conception of freedom, by not considering the social, cultural and structural dimension of male domination, for the feminist movement.
