According to Bossuefs thought, there exists a "celestial politics" that must provide the model for action, notably that of the sovereign who wishes to act under the influx of Providence and avoid haughtiness. God provides the wisdom to the prince so he knows how to lead the peoples, as well as give them the intelligence to let themselves be led. In this sense, historical Providence, the central idea in the bishop of Meaux's philosophy, cannot be understood if dissociated from its political component.
