Abstract

This paper presents the following hypothesis: the notion of command defines a type of nonviolent action in the philosophy of Adam Smith. In order to demonstrate this, his theory of command will be examined. This notion unfolds itself into two: a command over people and a command over objects, but these two fields are deeply intertwined, especially in the theory of economic and political development of the Scottish philosopher
