Abstract

This paper aims at clarifying the concept of moral dispositions
from a contractarian perspective. I have in mind the kind of moral theory
advanced by David Gauthier. My intention is to show that the thesis
according to which it would be rational, for the sake of self-interest, to
“choose” being moved by a sense of justice must be construed in terms
of the rationality of a choice for the creation and support of the institutions
which are at the root of our moral dispositions.
