Politics within the Boundaries os merely reflective Judgment: Arendt's Reading of Kant

Commentators have often pointed out a conflict between Arendt’s late conception of judgment as a spiritual capacity and her early conception according to which political judgment is associated with action. There would therefore be a contradiction between the point of view of the spectator, assumed in the late conception, and the point of view of the actor, which characterizes the early conception. In this paper I intend to show that the source of that inconsistency lies in the fact that, since her comments on Kantian philosophy in the 1950s, Arendt strictly separated determining from reflecting judgments, and I present, based on recent readings, the possibility of an alternative reading of Kantian philosophy that privileges the unity of the critical system.
