Abstract

This study recovers two studies made in different times and places of the State of São Paulo aiming to compare the perception that individuals and groups living in rural areas have on the country and city, using that perception to justify their migration or lack of desire to migrate. The rereading of the first studies conducted in the 70's was made from the concerns of the second study, in the beginning of the XXI century, which has, therefore, the role of social framework of memory. The first of the two moments experienced is represented, so by updated, by the concerns raised in the second. The printing of this work, however, highlights the similarity of the representations that all of them have of the country and city, despite the different times and places.
