Abstract

Remembrances are attempt at organizing the experiences of the migrants and their life´s journey. When the migrants set down in the suburbs of São Paulo, they reinterpret real experiences from the abandoned areas in Minas. The migrant´s feasting in  big cities institutes the feasting of the history of common life, sociability, indication of identity and recollection of the past. The feasting ethnic constitutes a social and religious time mark for the group, and it is at the feasting that the informal relationship of power sets up. The displacement of the rural population to the urban centres implies the reinvention of identities to each generation and the adaptation the habits the city life in a process of cultural juxtaposition. The rites to define their identity; they become signs when a group tries to force another group to adapt to a new model.
