Abstract

Our attention is focused on the Portuguese immigration, very little studied in the metropolitan context of São Paulo. We aimed to apprehend the representations of the members of immigrant families about their everyday life, the experiences and strategies they have developed in the context of the social groups´plurarity and transformations that have occurred in this city. Besides we wanted to study the institutions related to them, their structure and way of operating. We have dealed especially with the relationships established in the educational field, trying to make clear how simultaneous it was their concern about the improvement in education in Portugal as well as about their insertion in the educational field in São Paulo.
