Abstract

Technological innovation in education due to new communication systems adoption, as well as increases in educational demand motivated by increases in population rates is responsible for major changes in formal educational organizations causing a thoroughly utilization of a new kind of education: Distance Learning Education - DLE. An underlying discussion on adopting this new methodology of teaching and learning is related to its efficiency and effectiveness assessed thorugh quality indicators to be observed by these new methodology agents. This study presents the conceptual framework, the classification and evolution of the DLE approach and discusses an evaluation model for distance-learning courses based on quality indicators developed by MEC (Brazilian Ministry of Education) and NEA (National Education Academy - USA).
