USP's Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros (Brazilian Institute, BSI), founded in 1962 by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, is na interdisciplinary center for research and documentation of the Country's history and culture. The Archives, Library and the Visual Art Collection congregate a collection of 110 thousand volumes, 250 thousand documents and two thousand works of art that can be researched and consulted by students, professors and researchers.
