The article deals with the trajectory of the Jornal de Natal (from the Northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte), most especially of the cultural supplement, the Caderno de Encartes. During the past two years the supplement has been opening its pages to the presentation of young artists and to the community. This is a resistance space for journalism that has a commitment to local culture and to its readers. It is a unique example in a region in which the means of communication remain in the hands of families that have political and economic power in the State.
