The article discusses the treatment the media gives violence, composing what the author denominated as violence esthetics. The author analyses the case of Veja magazine's coverage of the rebellion lead by prisoner Leonardo Pareja. It is shown how this prisoner was able do use the media to benefit from an image of a hero of the oppressed. Violence esthetics collaborates to the inversion of values and to the mixture between fiction and reality.
