Abstract

The author critiques the book Tiradentes, um presídio da ditadura. Mémórias de presos políticos, organized by Alípio Freire, Izaías Almada and J. A. de Granville Ponce, edited by Spicione, in 1997. It brings up and knits together, with its own view on the depositions of those who were the Tiradentes political prisoners, stressing the value the book brings to public knowledge, revealing, in order to compose History, the day to day lived in prison by those who dared to fight against the dictatorship. The article tells how the book reveals solidarity ties that were established among the prisoners, the organization of daily routines in order to be able to live with dignity, the resistance against torture and humiliation, the integrity of moral values and the dreams of freedom for a better world.
