The article clarifies the concept of multiculturalism and interprets it according to its use, firstly in the North American society, emphasizing the positive aspects as well as the negative ones. It, then, analyzes multiculturalism keeping in mind the Brazilian plural ethnic characteristics, a country that gives priority to the assimilation of cultures in order to form a single identity: the Brazilian one.
