Abstract

In an interview to Comunicação & Educação, Jesús Martín-Barbero talks about his intellectual trajectory in Spain and, later, in Colombia. He talks about his option for Latin America and how, today, he feels as if he were a Latin American. He deals with the need for Communications to be thought of not only from the media point of view, but also as a fundamental problem to understand contemporaneous society. He deals with the importance of the communication and education fields as a perspective that can both help the school and the teacher to surpass the linear and sectioned view people have of knowledge, giving greater potential to changes that will tend, in the future, to the new sensibilities and to the new forms of knowledge the young people are developing. He also emphasizes that culture and communications are important categories to conquer citizenship.
