Speech made by USP's President, Jacques Marcovitch, during the Distance learning: sharing experiences workshop, organized by USP's Polytechnic School. The President stresses the importance new technologies have in education, noting that a distance learning project cannot leave out the teacher and his unique capacity for reflection. He also emphasizes that introducing these technologies cannot be submitted to intervention by commercial interests that represent the unwanted sterilization of the curricular standards and the de-qualification of the teachers. Education must prepare agents of change and build the citizens.
