The authors analyze research tendencies regarding television and children, mainly based on the bibliography available in English. The survey indicates that although there is a concern with other approaches, the traditional line of media effects continues marking most of the research that is being carried out on violence and television. The article mentions a research topic that is also surfacing: the child television programming industry. The research on the violence portrayed by television programs had international reach and involved, via Unesco, several countries.
