The author talks about how the press services were organized at the Instituto do Coração, at the Hospital das Clínicas - Incor, during Governor Mario Covas' illness and death. The article reflects on the relationship between the Hospital and Governor's press services and the media, creating the necessary credibility and transparency conditions, always within the limits of ethícs, regarding the facts informed in the medical bulletins, and during lhe press gatherings with the medical team. Professionalism and clarity in objectives, considering the importance of the news reaching the public in the most efficacious manner possible, guided the pradice of the press advisors who, in fact, managed the çommunication process that was established. The author also emphasizes the importance of deepening the study and the discussion on the role of press services insofar as their social and ethical function is concerned.
