Abstract

This article presents a reflection about tensions and disputes occurred in the cultural field of federal government, especially the historical and artistic heritage, in a attempt to build a memory of the nation in much of the twentieth century. More precisely, the text analyze the way a group of intellectuals articulated with the old Serviço do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Sphan), build a fairly particular cultural heritage which purported to represent the memory of brazilians. Important here is to notice how this hegemony was achieved through the use of media, mainly through the editorial lines of their own.
