Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of recognition of industrial heritage in the city of São Paulo by the public agencies of preservation in the national (IPHAN), state (CONDEPHAAT) and municipal (CONPRESP) spheres, through the study of the official determinations of protection and through the trajectories of those agencies, recovering the criteria that influenced the decisions that have contemplated the industrial remaining. The significant increase in the number of the official protections verified over the last two decades on the one hand reflects the awareness of its
significance in the academic and social ambit; on the other, exposes the forces of real estate and the impasses with the owners.
