Cidades patrimônio da humanidade e alterações climáticas: reflexões sobre os efeitos e conservação como medida de mitigação

Abstract

Climate change is in focus today by the strong threat of their effects on essential areas of society as that the increase in temperature causes changes in the precipitation standards,
rising sea levels, erosion and other impacts. The World Heritage Cities (WHC) have significant vulnerability to the risks of destruction, from and intensified by climate change.
The WHC have significant interest in these questions because they act as major tourist destinations and have different demands and capabilities of mitigation and adaptation. In
this paper we present examples of conservation actions, mitigation and adaptation conducted in WHC around the world, based on official reports of the IPCC - International Panel on Climate Change, and studies of UNEP - United Nations Environment Programme and WTO - World Tourism Organization, as well as an overview of the Brazilian CPH. Check it that actions taken may have benefits that extend beyond heritage conservation, and that Brazil has not taken advantage of the available resources or dynamited necessary practices to defend themselves from the effects of AC, due to lack consientização for their risk and political will.
