Abstract

The inclusion of the Jesuit estate of Alta Gracia in UNESCO's World Cultural and Natural Heritage list propitiated the opportunity for the elaboration of a set of measures to protect and regulate land use concerning the cultural asset's immediate environment. In Alta Gracia, preservation guidelines began with the Ordinance for Cultural Assets No. 4368/99, then continued with the Manual of Proceedings for Level One Protection Area (Ordinance No. 4518/99). Seven years after the promulgation of these protection measures, it is in order to evaluate their effectivity, especially since the protection measures for Level Two Protection Area are currently under way. Understanding site planning and management as the regulation of a unique architectural type and its urban environment, this article intends to present the analysis of such experiences.
