The official image of the Portuguese New State and its deconstructions

In this article, I aim to present some reflections about the deconstruction of the official image of the Portuguese New State through two objects of study: the novel The year of the death of Ricardo Reis (1984), by José Saramago, and the film Fantasia Lusitana (2010), by João Canijo. In the novel, this expedient occurs, especially, through the narrator, whereas in the documentary, it happens through the presence of certain foreigners who used Lisbon as an escape route from the Nazi during World War II.
