Abstract

The objective of this article is to discuss the structural function of the images of Angolan traditional beliefs in two novels of Boaventura Cardoso: Maio, Mês de Maria (1997) and Noites de Vigília (2012). In order to compare the two uses of these images by the writer, the researches of Saraiva (2007) and Garuba (2003) on the term “animist realism” will be used, besides the concepts of “animism”, from Viveiros de Castro (2014), “cultural materialism”, from Williams (1979), and “transculturation”, from Rama (2001).
