Abstract

 This paper seeks to reflect on the work of Cornelio Penna, A Menina Morta (1954), highlighting the representations of female characters related to motherhood in the context of the narrative, ie, nineteenth century, on the farm Grotão. Therefore, the impositions for female figures are considered between two narrow possibilities of figuration and representation.
