Women's participation in the Struggle for national liberation

This article examines the role of women in the liberation struggles of Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau, arguing that their participation constituted a complex space in which the anticolonial fight intertwined with an incipient quest for social and gender emancipation. Drawing on the thought of Amílcar Cabral, who regarded women’s participation as essential to revolutionary success, the analysis traces an arc that extends from the endogenous critique of militants such as Deolinda Rodrigues, Titina Silá, and Josina Machel — who exposed the contradictions between egalitarian rhetoric and lived reality — to contemporary literary production.
